ProJoint Titan FAQ's
What is Nexus ProJoint Titan and what is it suitable for?
ProJoint Titan is a two-part epoxy paving grout from Nexus. Resin and sand come pre-mixed in the tub, with a hardener added at the point of use to activate the chemical cure. Once set, it produces a hard, weed-free, frost-resistant joint that withstands pressure washing and vehicular traffic up to 10 tonnes.
It is suitable for natural stone paving including sandstone, limestone, travertine, granite, basalt, slate and quartzite, as well as concrete slabs, manmade pavers, setts and cobbles. It works on both permeable and impermeable bedding systems, which makes it a versatile option across different installation types.
ProJoint Titan is not recommended for porcelain paving. The resin content can leave an uneven sheen on porcelain surfaces due to their density and impermeability. On natural stone, the same resin sheen enhances the colour and texture of the surface, but on porcelain it tends to appear patchy. For porcelain, ProJoint RapidFlow is the more appropriate choice.
Do I need to pre-seal before using ProJoint Titan, and how do I apply it correctly?
Pre-sealing is not always essential but is strongly recommended for porous or textured natural stone, lightly coloured slabs and any surface where resin staining or grout haze would be difficult to remove. For smooth, dense concrete or less absorbent stone, it is less critical, but if there is any doubt it is worth sealing as a precaution. ProJoint Pre-Grout Sealer is compatible with natural stone and concrete paving.
For application, ensure the paving surface is clean, free from debris and adequately soaked with water before you begin.
ProJoint Titan is designed to be mixed in its tub using a plasterer’s whisk. Add the full bottle of hardener to the resin and sand mix and whisk for 3 minutes until the product becomes a free-flowing slurry.
Apply with a wet medium-soft brush at a 45-degree angle, working the product into the joints. Keep slabs misted throughout the process. Remove any excess from the surface as you go – material left on the surface once cured will not clean off easily.
Temperature matters significantly. The recommended working range is 5°C to 20°C, with a usable range from 3°C to 25°C. In temperatures above 20°C the surface temperature of paving can reach considerably higher, which accelerates the cure and shortens your working window. Cooler, overcast conditions give more time to work and clean the surface properly. Avoid frosty or wet conditions as these interfere with curing.
For a full walkthrough of preparation, application and the most common mistakes to avoid, see our guide.
What is the resin sheen after applying ProJoint Titan and how long does it last?
Due to the epoxy resin content, a temporary sheen can appear on the paving surface after application. On natural stone this typically enriches and darkens the surface colour, which many users find enhances the finished result. On grey paving such as granite the effect can be more noticeable, so a test area is worth doing before committing to full application.
The sheen is temporary. It generally fades within one week to six months depending on weathering, foot traffic and conditions, with most users finding it has largely gone within two to three months.
Pre-sealing before application is the most reliable way to reduce or prevent the sheen. The sealer creates a surface barrier that stops the resin adhering to the slab. Applying the grout with a wet medium-soft brush at 45 degrees and keeping slabs misted throughout also helps with clean-up. It is important to spread the mix across the full paving area during application to keep any residual effect uniform rather than patchy.
If tacky patches appear after application, a damp sponge or cloth used during grouting can lift residual resin before it sets. For stubborn grout haze after curing, a dedicated grout haze remover such as ProJoint Eliminator is the recommended solution.
How long does ProJoint Titan take to cure, and when can the area be used?
At 20°C, ProJoint Titan can accept foot traffic after approximately 12 hours and light vehicular traffic such as cars after 24 hours. Protect the jointed area from rain until fully cured. If there is a chance of rain, cover the area – but ensure the cover does not touch the fresh joints as air circulation is required during curing.
Cold temperatures and higher humidity extend curing time, so in cooler conditions allow additional time before use.
The joints will continue to gain strength over several days after the initial set. Surface hardness in the first few days is normal and not a cause for concern – the product continues curing and reaches full strength progressively over the following weeks.
Once fully cured, ProJoint Titan joints can be pressure washed. Use a fan nozzle and keep the washer at a 45-degree angle rather than directing pressure straight into the joint face.
How much ProJoint Titan will I need, and can I store any leftover product?
Coverage depends on joint width and depth, so the tub size needed can vary considerably between projects. As a general guide, one 22.5kg tub covers approximately 8-10m² on average. For 600 x 900mm slabs with 5mm wide, 25mm deep joints the coverage extends to approximately 52m² per tub. For 200 x 100mm setts with 10mm wide, 22mm deep joints it drops to approximately 4.2m² per tub. It is worth calculating based on your actual joint dimensions before ordering to avoid running short mid-project.
Once the hardener has been added, ProJoint Titan must be used immediately. Mixed product cannot be stored. Only mix what you need for the area you are actively working on.
Unmixed tubs have a shelf life of 12 months from the date of manufacture, stored unopened and protected from frost. Using the product after the declared shelf life may increase the risk of an allergic reaction.
Why use ProJoint Titan rather than a standard air-cure jointing compound?
Air-cure jointing compounds rely on exposure to air and moisture to set, which limits their durability and load-bearing performance over time. ProJoint Titan uses a chemical cure driven by the resin and hardener reaction, which produces a significantly harder and more resilient joint.
For driveways, vehicle crossings or any area carrying traffic up to 10 tonnes, an epoxy grout is the more appropriate long-term choice. ProJoint Titan is also more reliably weed-resistant and frost-proof than most air-cure alternatives and withstands pressure washing without the joint degrading.
