Ultracrete PAK Spray FAQ

What is UltraCrete PAK Spray and how does it work?

UltraCrete PAK Spray is an aerosol spray, white in color, specifically designed to detect Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) present in road tar. It works by dissolving PAHs, causing the white surface to change to yellow/brown, indicating contamination.

Why is detecting PAHs in road tar important?

As of 1st October 2025 UK legislation has become mandatory which enforces strict Waste Management (WM3) guidelines classify excavated materials containing more than 0.1% coal tar or Benzo(a)pyrene (BaP) above 0.005% as hazardous waste. Rapidly identifying PAHs with Ultracrete PAK Spray helps ensure compliance with these regulations for proper disposal and worker safety.

What level of PAH contamination can Ultracrete PAK Spray detect?

UltraCrete PAK Spray can identify the presence of PAHs in tar at levels of 100ppm and above. It offers greater certainty of results when the PAH content is over 150ppm.

When should UltraCrete PAK Spray be used?

PAK Spray should be used whenever asphalt is excavated, especially when carrying out highway and road maintenance, to ensure that any contaminated asphalt is identified and disposed of in line with health and safety regulations.

What is the shelf life and storage recommendation for Ultracrete PAK Spray?

If stored correctly in a cool, well-ventilated place between 5°C and 25°C, away from direct sunlight or sources of ignition, UltraCrete PAK Spray has a shelf life of 24 months in its original, sealed packaging.
