Ardex E90 is an admix for cement based tile adhesives that produces a mortar which, when set and hardened, has high adhesive strength as well as elastic and water repellent properties. It is particularly suitable for use with ARDEX S 16 and ARDEX S 21 Tile Adhesives.
  • Improves adhesion when fixing fully vitrified tiles, porcelain and mosaics etc
  • Improves flexibility
  • Eliminates the need to prime when fixing onto existing glazed surfaces
  • Suitable for wall and floor applications
  • Suitable for internal and external areas, including swimming pools
  • Suitable for use with underfloor heating
Ardex E 90 is a special synthetic dispersion for use with Ardex X 7 G, Ardex X 7 W and Ardex S 21 cement-based adhesives. Ardex E 90 is diluted with an equal volume of water prior to mixing with the Ardex adhesive powder. The addition of Ardex E 90 produces a mortar that, once set and hardened, has high adhesive strength, elastic and water repellent properties. The mixed mortar has the same properties as the normally mixed Ardex adhesive mortar; workability, slump resistance, high initial grab, open time, etc. The substrate preparation follows the recommendations given for the Ardex adhesives, except that glazed surfaces do not require priming, though they must be clean and free of barrier materials. The improved mortar is especially effective in the following situations:- fixing large flat-backed tiles and slabs as well as smooth backed, dense and impervious ceramics, vitreous mosaics, etc. Direct fixing of ceramic tiles onto existing glazed surfaces. Ardex X7G or X7W/Ardex E 90 mortar can be used for internal or external applications and is useful to inhibit the formation of lime bloom and efflorescence on external tiling. Ardex S21/Ardex E 90 mortar is ideal for bedding large flat backed and/or smooth dense tiles and for providing water repellent bedding where required. Ardex S21/Ardex E 90 mortar may also be used for applications to existing smooth impervious surfaces.   More product detail

Ardex E90 FAQ

What is Ardex E 90 and what is it used for?

Ardex E 90 is a special synthetic dispersion admix designed for use with Ardex X 7 G, X 7 W, and S 21 cement-based tile adhesives. It improves adhesion, flexibility, and water-repellent properties, and eliminates the need to prime when fixing onto existing glazed surfaces.

How do I mix Ardex E 90 with Ardex adhesives?

Dilute Ardex E 90 with an equal volume of clean water in a clean container. Then add the Ardex adhesive powder while stirring thoroughly until an easily worked mortar is obtained. You can fine-tune viscosity and slump resistance by slightly adjusting the water content to suit site conditions.

What coverage or quantity do I need?
  • With Ardex X 7 G or X 7 W: 3.6 kg of Ardex E 90, diluted with 3.6 litres of water, is sufficient for one 20 kg bag of adhesive.
  • With Ardex S 21: Dilute Ardex E 90 1:1 with water. Due to S 21’s lower water demand, approximately 2 kg of Ardex E 90 is usually sufficient for a 22 kg bag.
Where can Ardex E 90 modified mortar be used?

It is suitable for internal and external applications, including:

  • Fixing fully vitrified tiles, porcelain, mosaics, and other dense or impervious ceramics
  • Direct fixing onto existing glazed surfaces (no primer required, but surfaces must be clean and free of barriers)
  • Tiling to heated subfloors
It also helps inhibit lime bloom and efflorescence on external tiling.
How is Ardex E 90 supplied and stored, and what is the shelf life?

Ardex E 90 is supplied in 3.6 kg polyethylene containers. Store unopened in a frost-free place away from direct sunlight. Shelf life is at least 12 months in unopened containers.
