How to use Acrypol roof protective coating
Acrypol roof protective coating is a professional-grade waterproofing solution designed to provide long-term protection for a variety of roofing surfaces. Suitable for use on both flat and pitched roofs, it effectively seals cracks, repairs joints, and prevents leaks caused by weathering or structural movement.
Follow the guide below to apply Acrypol roof protective coating correctly and achieve a smooth, watertight finish that lasts.
1. Prepare the surface
For best results, ensure the roof surface is clean, dry, and stable before you begin. Remove all loose debris, moss, grease, and dirt using a stiff brush. Check for any areas of structural damage and repair these prior to application.
If moisture is present, allow sufficient drying time before applying Acrypol roof protective coating to ensure maximum adhesion and performance.
2. Stir thoroughly
Before use, open the tin and stir the Acrypol roof protective coating thoroughly. This ensures that the fibres and waterproofing components are evenly distributed, giving you a consistent, high-quality finish across the entire roof area.
3. Apply the first coat
Using a 50mm economy brush or a paint roller and sleeve, apply the first coat of Acrypol roof sealant evenly across the prepared surface. Work the product carefully into cracks, joints, and around roof penetrations such as vents, skylights, and flashings to ensure complete coverage.
For added strength on larger cracks or seams, reinforce the first coat with Acrypol reinforcement scrim. Lay the scrim directly into the wet sealant, then apply another layer over the top to fully embed and seal it.
4. Apply additional coats
Once the first coat has dried, typically within 24 hours depending on weather conditions, apply a second coat in the opposite direction to the first. This cross-layer application ensures thorough coverage and enhances waterproof performance.
If required, a third coat can be applied for additional durability, particularly in high-traffic or exposed areas.
5. Clean tools after use
After completing the application, clean all brushes, rollers, and equipment immediately using Sika Wonder Wipes to remove any residue. This will prevent the sealant from curing on your equipment and ensure it’s ready for future use.
6. Allow to cure
Allow the coated area to fully cure before exposing it to foot traffic or heavy rainfall. Once dry, Acrypol roof protective coating forms a seamless, flexible waterproof membrane that protects against leaks and weathering.
Expert tips for best results

- Stir the product periodically during use to maintain an even texture.
- Avoid applying in freezing conditions or if rain is expected within 6 hours of application.
- Use adequate reinforcement on joints, seams, and damaged sections for added strength.
